Dancer, Choreographer, Dance-maker!!
Apply now to the residence of Nytke Contemporary Dance Festival!
This is a unique opportunity to get to work in a small group in the middle of nature. The residence is located on the island of Pikku-Otava in Ylöjärvi, about a 20-minute drive from Tampere. The island creates a wonderful environment to focus on presence and a flow of creativity. Give yourself or your team the opportunity to work a little differently than normal in everyday life - away from the dust of the city.
Nytke invites a maximum of 9 artists to the island, who will be divided into three groups to work on the works. The idea is that in four days (4-7 July 2022, Monday-Thursday) we will create an artist community on the island, between which we are working on existing projects, or completely new material. We start the mornings together with practice led my different dancers, and then divide into smaller groups to work on our own work. During the residency, other dancers act as outside eyes for each other, helping and lightly challenging each other’s process. Laura Kuukkanen has become acquainted with the DasArts Feedback method in Malta during the spring and brings the island a borrowed way to give constructive feedback.
During the Nytke Contemporary Dance Festival, residents will share their process for 1 to 1.5 hours in a workshop (15.7). The works (8 - 15 min) will be presented to the public at Hälle-Näyttömö at Nytke Theater Evening on 16 July.
On the island of Little Otava there are the premises of the Workers' Summer Home, which the Residence will rent during these four days. The island has a party house, the Glass Palace, which we get to use. In addition to this, the island has a large grass field, as well as, of course, nature forest, rocky beaches, and small paths. There is no running water on the island, we wash in the traditional sauna, swim in Lake Näsijärvi and eat together. We cook some of the food together, we get some of it from the kitchen of Workers' Summer Home.
Nytke ry has not received any external funding for Pikku-Otava's residence this year. Nevertheless, Nytke provides selected dancers / dancers with work space, accommodation and food on the island. With the theater night’s ticket proceeds, we pay the theater rent and the remaining portion is split between the artists in the residence.
Apply now by writing a free-form application / motivation letter (max 1 page) and attaching your CV. The application period is open until May 30, 2022 and we will notify the selected dancers of their selection in early June.
